Rank 1 Legend Decks – February

Posted by Rondels 8 February 2017 in Hearthstone

There is a lot of debate currently going about the current state of the meta and a lot of players are bored with playing Reno or Patches decks.

When things get boring, players tend to mess around and look for new ways to build decks, which can lead to some awesome innovation and the comeback of Yogg-Saron, Hope's End.

Yogg Control WarriorJade Devolve Shaman | Yogg Jade Druid | Reno Warlock

Against everyone’s expectations – except for maybe Fibonacci – Control Yogg-Saron, Hope's End Warrior is still a thing.
An ex Yu-Gi-Oh TCG pro called “Jakephinney” made it to #1 Legend on NA with his take on Control Warrior.

Maybe Control Warrior is the ultimate answer to Shaman after all ?

Fibonnaci tweeted that: “he loved Shamanstone” showing off some crazy winrates, going 64w16L versus Aggro Shaman right before the ending of the January Season.

General Strategy

Control warrior has a few ways to win: [ish_list]

  • Through fatigue
  • a Grommash Hellscream finisher.
  • Board control
  • Or getting out of reach by gaining ridiculous amounts of health/armor.

Although Yogg Control Warrior has a similar playstyle to Control Warrior.
The addition of Yogg-Saron, Hope's End gives you a potential extra comeback mechanic either through board clear or draw.

This deck shines versus aggro due to being filled with removal spells such as Revenge,Bash,…The deck doesn’t run Elise Starseeker meaning your matchup against control will be a lot weaker, you will either need to win through fatigue or getting a Grommash Hellscream (+ weapon) finisher.

Mulligan for strong early game tools like Fiery War Axe, Acolyte of Pain, Slam,Bash and Ravaging Ghoul.

Combos & Tips

  • Ideally you want to be dropping down your Yogg-Saron, Hope's End when your opponent has flooded to board.
  • Try to play around weapon removal with using a Fiery War Axe as bait
  • Use weapon damage + Grommash Hellscream as a closing combo
  • Play Dirty Rat when you have a removal tool for his minion such as Brawl,… and try to time your rat to get something “huge” during the control matchups for example: Reno Jackson

Not exactly #1 Legend this month, but this list finished as the #1 in the January season. It’s no surprise that a Shaman player claimed the rank, but the list used is unique, running a lot of healing and even Devolve. Congrats to Somitequila for finishing #1 Legend during the January Season.

Class Specific Cards
  • 2Spirit Claws2
  • 2Devolve2
  • 2Jade Claws2
  • 2Maelstrom Portal2
  • 3Healing Wave1
  • 4Hex2

  • 3Mana Tide Totem2
  • 4Jade Lightning2

Neutral Cards
  • 2Bloodmage Thalnos1
  • 3Brann Bronzebeard1
  • 4Jade Spirit2
  • 5Azure Drake2
  • 6Aya Blackpaw1
General Strategy

This deck does not run the pirate package like Superjj’s & Lifecoach’s Jade Shaman, but relies heavily on slowing down your opponents opener with weapons, board clears or Devolve. Make sure you are on the removal plan until you reach the mid game.

The mid to lategame is where this deck shines the most: after you’ve spawned a few mediocre jades you’ll be able to create extremely sticky bodies on the board. Cards like Mana Tide Totem, Bloodmage Thalnos, Azure Drake will make sure that you are never low on cards.

Remember that versus control you’ll want to start pushing in damage, you have no way to infinitely spawn jades like Jade Druid, but your mid game package is a lot stronger.

Make sure to be counting your damage, Midrange Shaman still has a lot of burst potential when something gets to stick on the board.

Always keep: Spirit Claws, Jade Claws & Devolve

Keep Bloodmage Thalnos with Spirit Claws.

Notable Cards

  • Healing Wave: Anti-Aggro tech
  • Devolve: Slows down your opponent a lot and is often used at the start versus aggro, transforming their 1-drops into Wisp. On a side note this also completely destroys Anyfin Paladin.

Several players have started to renew their faith once again and have trusted Yogg-Saron, Hope's End to guide them through the Shaman meta. Jade Druid has been around ever since the release of Mean Streets but was never considered a tier 1 deck, its matchups are very polarized having an extremely good matchup versus Control, but struggling versus Aggro. “OpexAlex” a russian streamer, has adapted Jade druid to his liking and used it to climb to legend and eventually took the #1 Legend spot.

Class Specific Cards
  • 0Innervate2
  • 1Living Roots2
  • 1Jade Idol2
  • 3Wild Growth2
  • 2Wrath2
  • 3Feral Rage2
  • 3Mulch1
  • 3Jade Blossom2

Neutral Cards
  • 2Bloodmage Thalnos1
  • 4Jade Spirit2
  • 5Azure Drake2
  • 6Aya Blackpaw1
  • 6Gadgetzan Auctioneer1
  • 10Yogg-Saron, Hope's End1
General Strategy

You are looking to survive the early game and stall to the mid/late game.

When facing aggressive decks, you’ll want to start developing your Jade Golems as soon as possible, even a turn 1 Jade Idol Golem spawn is fine, it will allow you to combat the board way better in the later stages of the game. Once you drag out the game long enough, you are heavily favored to win.

Versus Control you’ll have to keep the fatigue game in mind, you don’t want to be running out of Jade Idol copies, nor do you want to have your deck filled with Jade Idol copies when you are only 15 cards deep and have no cards in hand. You might want to hold on to those Jade Idol copies for a “miracle” turn with Gadgetzan Auctioneer or Fandral Staghelm.

Look for your ramp: Innervate, Wild Growth, Jade Blossom.

When expecting Aggro keep: Living Roots, Wrath

If you have Innervate or Wild Growth, you can keep your minions. Just make sure you have something to play each turn, you don’t want to be skipping a turn with this deck.

Notable Cards

The list created by Hoej was named “Shaman Slayer” for obvious reasons, it runs a whole lot of anti aggro counter: Corruption, Mind Control Tech,Voidwalker and even cutting Emperor Thaurissan for Frost Elemental to have some some extra stall potential.

  • 4Refreshment Vendor1
  • 4Spellbreaker1
  • 4Twilight Drake1
  • 5Second-Rate Bruiser1
  • 6Frost Elemental1
  • 6Reno Jackson1
General Strategy

Look for an efficient series of plays that will get you out onto the board from the very start. You will be hitting Life Tap an awful lot with this deck, so factor that into your thinking. You want to be surviving the early game until you hit a big swing turn, being able to flood the board and then heal back to full with Reno Jackson can be enough in most match-ups.

When facing aggro, your main goal is to survive and take as little as damage possible in the early stages of the game. Your minions out value theirs and a Reno Jackson can be game over in most fast-paced games. Aim to stall the game, and drag it into the late-game where your deck shines.

When facing off against control / reno decks: You will have to win through board presence, because you are not running the Leeroy Jenkins combo and very few late game. Lord Jaraxxus, will be your main win condition, meaning you will have to get this out asap.

When playing Lord Jaraxxus make sure you will be able to survive through your opponent’s burst. So try and pick up Armor Gain from Kazakus or make sure you have plenty of heal left in hand so you can live through your opponent’s burst, while continuing to spawn 2 mana 6/6 Demons.

Always keep: Reno Jackson

Versus aggro keep:
Doomsayer, Imp Gang Boss, Dark Peddler, Mistress of Mixtures, Voidwalker, Shadow Bolt, Earthen Ring Farseer.

Acidic Swamp Ooze versus weapon classes.
Keep Demonwrath if you are suspecting pirate shenanigans.

Versus Control: Mulligan hard for Twilight Drake
