Standard Legend Dragon Priest

Standard Legend Dragon Priest

A dragon themed Priest tends to play a lot different than its control counterpart. While Control Priest focuses more on having board removal, Dragon Priest plays a more minion based tempo game.

Early game is crucial in this deck, and requires a bit of thought. Seeing how your minions synergize with each other, you might have to play off curve. Holding your 1-mana Twilight Whelp in order to get full value from your turn 2 Wyrmrest Agent and Blackwing Technician can be more beneficial than throwing out your 1-drop.

You want to keep control of the board and make value trades using buff cards such as Power Word: Shield or early removal spells: Shadow Word: Pain. Getting your minions to stick is essential in Dragon Priest, it will allow you to continuously apply pressure and make value trades. You are running plenty of anti-aggro tools: Twilight Guardian, Holy Nova, Shadow Word: Pain, Cabal Shadow Priest so you are well equipped to deal with early game aggression.

When facing Control, you will have to be the aggressor, and use your dragons to flood the board and pressure your opponent down or get an Ysera to stick. Forbidden Shaping is also a great tool versus Control, seeing it is a very flexible card to use. You mainly want to use it for 8 or 9 mana so use your Hero Power or Power Word: Shield first, so you have a better chance of getting a good legendary minion.

Look for Twilight Whelp, Wyrmrest Agent, Northshire Cleric in the early game.

Look for your early game cards, keep in mind that your cards have synergy with one another and keeping a dragon like Azure Drake in your opening hand might be worth it seeing how it can buff your Twilight Whelp, Blackwing Corruptor and Wyrmrest Agent in the early game.

Versus Aggro: Look for Twilight Whelp, Wyrmrest Agent, Northshire Cleric in the early game. Shadow Word: Pain will help you remove that Totem Golem or Knife Juggler. If you have a good hand keep Twilight Guardian / Power Word: Shield with a sticky early game minion such as Twilight Whelp / Wyrmrest Agent.

Versus Control: Look for a smooth curve to keep up your Tempo: Twilight Whelp, Wyrmrest Agent, Blackwing Technician, Twilight Guardian.

Combos & Tips

  • Synergy: Your cards share a lot of synergy with one another, keep that in mind when you are mulliganing / putting a card on the field, sometimes it might be better to hold on to that dragon in order to get the buff from Blackwing Corruptor / Twilight Guardian next turn.
  • Forbidden Shaping: is a flexible card that can be used to get an extra minion on board or to generate a late game threat, keep in mind that legendaries costing 8-9 mana are usually better than those costing 10 so you want to Hero Power / use a Power Word: Shield first.
