Posted by Daydream 19 February 2018 in Hearthstone

My Greetings,

Jean-Baptiste “Daydream” Beeckmans, Coach and Manager of Sector One here, sharing with you some of the performing and creative decks at mid-season that reached top legend ranks. I am sure you might like to try some of these.

Today we are going to talk about :

Quest Rogue Rank 8 by Ryvius (The Deck|Twitter)
Big Priest Rank 15 by RDU (The Deck|Twitter)

The Spell Hunter list of Bragi (@Bragi_HS) gained a lot of popularity during the month, performing really well. Bragi brought it all the way to the top earlier this month and Findan proves us that the list is still at the top, reaching Rank 5 legend with it past the mid-month mark.

General Strategy :

The plan here is to control the early game with your weapons, secrets and cheap spells, while waiting for your Barnes into Y'Shaarj, Rage Unbound Combo or upgrading your Lesser Emerald Spellstone to flood the board with 3/3 wolves. Tracking can help you get the precious Barnes. Other strong tools such as Deathstalker Rexxar or Rhok'delar might help you win longer games.

Mulligan :

Always keep Barnes. When you think your opponent is playing an aggressive deck, keep Candleshot. If you don’t have Barnes, keep Tracking. If you face a paladin you might consider keeping Explosive Trap or Unleash the Hounds.

Notable Cards :

Barnes : He will bring Y'Shaarj, Rage Unbound on the board, often offering you an insta-win when played on turn 4 or 3 with a coin.

Lesser Emerald Spellstone : Can quickly become huge when upgraded, you will summon up to 4- 3/3 wolves on the board for only 5-mana.

Rhok'delar : Will fill your hand with hunter spells. Be careful though, it will only work once Barnes and Y'Shaarj, Rage Unbound are not in the deck anymore.

Deck :

Class Specific Cards
  • 0Circle of Healing2
  • 0Silence2
  • 1Inner Fire2
  • 1Northshire Cleric2
  • 1Potion of Madness1
  • 1Power Word: Shield2
  • 2Divine Spirit2
  • 2Radiant Elemental2
  • 2Shadow Ascendant2
  • 2Shadow Visions2
  • 3Kabal Talonpriest2
  • 3Unidentified Elixir2
  • 5Lyra the Sunshard1
Neutral Cards
  • 1Lightwarden2
  • 2Wild Pyromancer2
  • 3Acolyte of Pain2

We already had a combo priest in the previous edition of the Top Legend Decks. The reason I decided to insert one in this edition as well is most of the previous combo priests we have seen were Dragon Combo Priests, this one doesn’t play any dragons. Monsanto peaked at Rank 6 Legend with it.

General Strategy :

The gameplan is fairly easy, yet hard (but rewarding) to master. You will try to compete for the board in early-game while collecting the combo pieces such as : Power Word: Shield, Divine Spirit and Inner Fire to build a big minion and kill your opponent.

Mulligan :

Always keep Northshire Cleric and Kabal Talonpriest. You might consider keeping Shadow Ascendant as it will help you compete for the board in early-game when played along with a Northshire Cleric for example, and you might as well consider keeping Acolyte of Pain as it might help you dig through your deck for your combo pieces.

Notable Cards :

Potion of Madness : Most people use it to control the board, and that is a good use of the card, but keep in mind that you can use it later in the game along with your combo pieces in order to kill your opponent.

Lyra the Sunshard : Can work wonders, especially in this deck containing 15 spells under 3-mana, and running Radiant Elemental that will reduce the cost of spells.

Deck :

Class Specific Cards
  • 0Preparation2
  • 0Shadowstep2
  • 1The Caverns Below1
  • 2Gadgetzan Ferryman2
  • 2Sap1
  • 3Mimic Pod2
  • 3Sonya Shadowdancer1
  • 6Vanish2
Neutral Cards
  • 1Glacial Shard2
  • 1Southsea Deckhand2
  • 1Stonetusk Boar2
  • 1Wax Elemental2
  • 2Bluegill Warrior2
  • 2Novice Engineer2
  • 2Youthful Brewmaster2
  • 3Coldlight Oracle2
  • 3Zola the Gorgon1

A lot of people, including myself, tought Quest Rogue would die after the nerf of Patches the Pirate. Ryvius proves us wrong by reaching Rank 8 Legend with this Quest Rogue list.

General Strategy :

The gameplan is pretty straightforward. Finish your quest as fast as possible, playing cheap minions and returning them to your hand with tools such as Shadowstep, Gadgetzan Ferryman or Youthful Brewmaster. From that point, stay alive and finish your opponent.

Mulligan :

Always keep : The Caverns Below, Shadowstep, Youthful Brewmaster, Gadgetzan Ferryman and Sonya Shadowdancer.

Notable Cards :

Glacial Shard : While this card might look nothing special. It will often be a very strong tool helping you buy some time to finish your quest by freezing a big, or threatening minion. It might also be used to avoid your opponent making advantageous trades as early-game your ability to make trades is very limited.

Vanish : Will reset the board, which will often be at your advantage, especially after completing the quest.

Zola the Gorgon : Is a very versatile card because you might use it during the quest to copy a minion and finish your quest earlier, or after completing the quest to copy a charge minion and apply more pressure.

Deck :

Class Specific Cards
  • 1Holy Smite2
  • 1Pint-Size Potion2
  • 2Mind Blast1
  • 2Shadow Visions2
  • 2Spirit Lash2
  • 3Shadow Word: Death1
  • 4Eternal Servitude2
  • 4Greater Healing Potion1
  • 4Shadow Word: Horror2
  • 6Dragonfire Potion2
  • 6Shadow Essence2
  • 7Lesser Diamond Spellstone2
  • 7Prophet Velen1
  • 7Psychic Scream2
  • 8Shadowreaper Anduin1
  • 9Obsidian Statue2
Neutral Cards
  • 4Barnes1
  • 9Malygos1
  • 10Y'Shaarj, Rage Unbound1

When it comes to priest, picking an archetype isn’t easy. Some will prefer to play the combo dragon priest, like Orange that reached Rank 2 Legend recently with it. Some will prefer to play the Spiteful priest, like Meati that recently entered the top 50 Legend with it. And some, like RDU, will choose the Big Priest. RDU reached Rank 15 Legend recently playing this list.

General Strategy :

This deck relies on it’s ability to play powerful minions in a record time thanks to Barnes and Shadow Essence, but also on it’s ability to revive them, thanks to Eternal Servitude or Lesser Diamond Spellstone. In the early-game, you will want to control the damage income by using Shadow Word: Horror along with Pint-Size Potion if needed. Dragonfire Potion and Psychic Scream might buy you some time aswell. Later on you want to play and resurrect a lot of big minions or to reach the dream combo : Your spellstone resurrecting Prophet Velen and Malygos and than playing Mind Blast and Holy Smite the same turn which is a total of 34 damage.

Mulligan :

Hard-mulligan for Barnes. If you have him, keep Shadow Essence. If you think your opponent is playing an aggressive deck, keep Shadow Word: Horror.

Notable Cards :

Barnes : Spawn a 1/1 copy of one of your strong minions. Of course Y'Shaarj, Rage Unbound is the dream, but since you have spells such as Eternal Servitude and Lesser Diamond Spellstone to revive dead minions, any minion of the deck will do the job.

Obsidian Statue : Will often be a life saver. The fact it has “Taunt”, the fact it has “Lifesteal” and the fact it kills a minion when it dies, will often turn a game around.

Prophet Velen & Malygos : Will boost in an insane way the damage dealt by Mind Blast, Holy Smite and by your new Hero Power, once you played Shadowreaper Anduin. Now it’s time to try some of these and try to climb the ladder. I hope you enjoyed this edition of the Sector One Top decks.
