Jean-Baptiste “Daydream” Beeckmans here, Coach and Manager of Sector One , sharing with you some of the performing and creative decks of this first half of season 39, that reached top legend ranks. I am sure you might want to try some of these.
Today we are going to talk about :
Shaman remains extremely powerful, in the last week we have seen the Token Jade archetype gaining in popularity and performances. TerrenceM managed to get Rank 1 on the NA server with it. The same deck was also used by Feno to reach Rank 2 legend.
In the early-game you want to play on curve and to build a board. You want to make advantageous trades. Flametongue Totem will often help you with that. In the mid-late game, you want to use Bloodlust to push an outrageous amount of damage to your opponent. In the late-game, you also have the opportunity to play your insane combo : Doppelgangster + Evolve, producing x3 6-mana creatures for 7 mana!
Flametongue Totem: will help you taking advantageous trades or pushing fast damage to the face.
Mana Tide Totem: will be a precious card as it will help you digging through your deck for the key cards, but also help you to avoid having an empty hand. It will in addition be annoying very often for your opponent as it is one of the creatures you want to remove instantly.
Bloodlust: will be used either to push a lot of damage to your opponent in order to kill him, or to remove a big threat.
Here is the list created and used by MrYagut to hit legend, he has reached Rank 13 legend with it this season. IAmTheKing has reached Rank 2 legend using this list. Some very impressive results, especially for a priest deck, as we are seeing less priests lately.
In the early-game you want to survive, with small minions that can help, especially when coupled with Power Word: Shield but also and more importantly with Potion of Madness, which is going to be your favorite card against aggressive decks.
Dirty Rat: Can be used either to gain value and a taunt minion if you expect your opponent to have no minions or small minions in hand. It can also be used right before an aoe such as Dragonfire Potion or if you have a Shadow Word: Death in hand, in case something bad happens.
Harrison Jones: Can break a weapon and draw card(s) and will place a 5/4 body on the board, what else could we want!
Medivh, the Guardian: Can work wonders, especially if you play big spells such as Free From Amber afterwards.
One class you will face a lot this season on ladder is mage. With 3 good archetypes at the moment mage is for sure one of the very strong classes of this expansion. Let’s have a closer look at this version of Freeze Mage, used by CLPayton to reach Rank 1 on the Chinese server.
With limited interactions with the board, the game plan as a freeze mage will mainly be to dig through your deck in order to gather the pieces that will be your win condition. You will usually play Alexstrasza as soon as possible, and just kill your opponent shortly after with your burst damage : Frostbolt, Medivh's Valet, Fireball, Pyroblast.
Medivh's Valet: Not only can this card help by putting a little body on the board, but it will also often allow you to kill an annoying creature such as a Flametongue Totem, a Mana Tide Totem and many others.
Doomsayer: Very strong card, especially when played on turn 2, Doomsayer will most of the time clear the board, or tank 7 or more damage, which are both beneficial in order to gain time for the development of your strategy.
Volcanic Potion: Having Volcanic Potion to fall back on is huge when you’re playing an aggressive deck that’s demolishing your minions. It’s also an insanely efficient answer to Living Mana, which is most likely the main reason why this card is included in the deck.
Alexstrasza: She is the key in this deck and will most of the time be the start of the clock. Once you gathered your burst cards in your hand, you will play her and go for the kill. Against aggressive decks, you might want to use Alexstrasza on your own face in order to outlast your opponent.
Created by Ostkaka, and brought to the top by Xixo, that climbed to legend and reached Rank 64 with it. This deck is probably one of the most creative and fun decks you will find this month.
Created by one of our players, Babbelbox, this deck is very original and offers insane synergies. Babbelbox managed to get a great winrate with his creation and the creativity of this deck made me pick it for this selection. If you love playing rogue and are looking for something original and creative, you must try this!
I asked him to write the general strategy, mulligan and notable cards section, in order to have the opinion of the creator of the deck.
This deck is completely built around your Questing Adventurer, Edwin VanCleef and Sherazin, Corpse Flower. Shadowstep and Novice Engineer make your deck much more consistent than the more regular versions of Miracle Rogue. They also allow you to combo more efficiently. It might seem that the deck contains very limited value. But the idea is that you run your opponent out of removals. As you cycle much faster throughout your deck than your opponent you are usually capable of building a lot of card advantage. When your opponent has all the answers early on you will generally win by one final push when you are getting into fatigue.
Always hard-mulligan for Swashburglar as it is by far the most important card in the early-game. When you already have Swashburglar in hand you might consider keeping more cards in order to lower the chance of drawing Patches the Pirate. On The Coin you always keep Edwin VanCleef as it gives you good chances to win the game immediately. In aggressive matchups you always keep Backstab. In control matchups you are looking for Sherazin, Corpse Flower as it is capable of generating more value when you draw it early. The mulligan for Miracle Rogue is far from straightforward as you can sometimes keep very specific combos when they are offered to you. But don’t worry, your mulligan decisions will improve once you get more experience with the deck!
